Why people in Tuzla look for storage

The municipality calls Tuzla Istanbul's fastest-growing district: 313,865 residents by TÜİK's 2025 figure, up 12,465 in a year. Mapped building levels average 13.3 in Aydıntepe, 11.5 in Mimar Sinan and 10.2 in Şifa, against 2.2 in Cami and 2.1 in Tepeören, though in those five neighbourhoods only 1–6 percent of buildings carry level data.

İBB's Tuzla plan-note amendment covers 14 neighbourhoods plus a military zone, but the municipality has no urban-transformation directorate and we found no risk-area declaration, so we do not offer transformation as the general reason. Renovation, a gap between two homes, a period abroad and downsizing still apply.

The road from Tuzla to our Sancaktepe depot

Our rooms are in Abdurrahmangazi Mahallesi, on the same side of the Bosphorus as Tuzla. An OSRM / OpenStreetMap car estimate (September 2026) gives about 20–25 km and 20–25 minutes without traffic: Aydıntepe 22.3 km and 20 minutes, the district centroid 20.1 km and 22 minutes, coastal Tuzla 25.2 km and 23 minutes. A loaded truck's time can differ; residents say the D-100 and İçmeler direction slows after work hours, so we pick the loading hour at the survey.

Of local streets, 16 percent are narrow or one-way in Aydınlı, 7 percent in Aydıntepe and 6 percent in Cami; in Mimar Sinan, Şifa and Yayla none. Only Aydıntepe (7.3 percent) and Mimar Sinan (6.1 percent) average a grade above 6 percent. We found no published rule on moving vehicles; the Zabıta regulation is only a document, and we do not state its content unread.

Six of 17 neighbourhoods, from Aydıntepe to Tepeören

Six of the 17 neighbourhoods whose data differs most. Figures come from OpenStreetMap and a Copernicus surface model, so grades are indicative.

  • Aydıntepe Mahallesi

1,112 buildings over 2.937 km². Mean grade is 7.3 percent and the steep share 50 percent, the highest in the district; narrow or one-way streets are 7 percent. On slopes, short carries and small boxes help.

  • Aydınlı Mahallesi

27.3 km² with 106.1 km of local streets, 4,651 buildings and 86 parking areas, first in the district on all four. 16 percent of streets are narrow or one-way, also the highest; steep share 30 percent. We write down the truck's entry street at the survey.

  • Mimar Sinan Mahallesi

33 km of local streets and 998 buildings in 1.341 km²; no narrow or one-way streets. Mean grade is 6.1 percent, steep share 44 percent. The questions are the lift in a tall block and where to stop on a slope.

  • Cami Mahallesi

884 buildings and 12 mapped parking areas over 1.29 km², 9.3 per km², the densest in the district. Narrow or one-way share is 6 percent, mean grade 3.3 percent, steep share 14 percent.

  • Orhanlı Mahallesi

1,416 buildings over 8.35 km². Mean grade of 2.6 percent and steep share of 9 percent are both the district's lowest; narrow or one-way share is 5 percent. The municipality calls the area disadvantaged for transport; the ground is easy, reaching the door is the question.

  • Tepeören Mahallesi

64.2 km of local streets and 2,335 buildings over 26.15 km²; narrow or one-way share 2 percent, steep share 30 percent. Residents describe many villa estates here; we measure the garden gate at the survey.

From steep Aydıntepe to new complexes: preparing in Tuzla

  1. 1.Moving to a new complex: could one size down do?

Our rooms are 8 m³ (1+0), 15 m³ (1+1), 22 m³ (2+1) and 28 m³ (3+1). If part of your belongings stays behind in a move to a new complex, one size down usually does; for a whole home, take the matching room. We confirm at the survey.

  2. 2.Small boxes for Aydıntepe

With half the streets steep, boxes are carried by hand when the truck cannot reach the door. Use medium boxes and pack heavy books separately.

  3. 3.Ask about the lift in tall blocks

The map shows blocks averaging over 10 storeys in Mimar Sinan, Şifa and Aydıntepe. Ask management about a freight lift and move-out hours, and dismantle wardrobes that will not fit it.

  4. 4.Sort old furniture first

The municipality's service guide says its teams collect unused household items; no separate line is published, the switchboard is 444 0 906. Not storing what you will not use can save a room size.

  5. 5.Visit the room

You can visit on any day; one visit after the first fill, to bring frequently needed boxes forward, is often enough.

  6. 6.Between semesters near a campus: a few boxes, clear labels

Residents' accounts mention university campuses around Orhanlı and Tepeören; for someone in a dorm or a shared flat, the belongings to park between terms are often a few boxes, not a roomful. Label the boxes with your name, and check with the dorm office beforehand about its move-out and vehicle entry rules, which differ from dorm to dorm. For a few boxes and a bicycle, 1+0 usually does.

Questions about storage in Tuzla

How long is the trip from Tuzla to the Sancaktepe depot?

About 20–25 km and 20–25 minutes without traffic: 22.3 km and 20 minutes for Aydıntepe, 25.2 km and 23 minutes for Tuzla, with no Bosphorus crossing. A loaded truck's time can differ. Source: OSRM / OpenStreetMap, September 2026.

Can you collect from a steep street like those in Aydıntepe?

Door-to-door pickup is part of the service. In Aydıntepe the steep share is 50 percent; if the truck cannot reach the door, boxes are carried by hand. At the survey we see the street and plan the loading around it.

Do you also collect from far neighbourhoods such as Orhanlı or Tepeören?

Yes, we collect and deliver within İstanbul. Tepeören covers 26.15 km² and Orhanlı 8.35 km²; an address with a nearby landmark speeds up the survey. We have not calculated their distance to the depot separately and confirm it at the survey.

Do I need permission from Tuzla Municipality for the truck?

We found no rule on moving vehicles on the municipality's pages; the Zabıta regulation is only a document. To be sure, ask the switchboard on 444 0 906 or the WhatsApp line 0530 919 09 06.

What should I plan for when emptying a student flat around Orhanlı or Tepeören between semesters?

Residents' accounts mention university campuses in both neighbourhoods, though the municipality's education-institutions page lists no universities. Because the municipality describes Orhanlı as disadvantaged for transport, we confirm the exact address, building entrance and pickup day in advance at the free survey.
