A long street network and slopes

The map shows 45.5 km of local streets and 14.2 km of through roads, the longest local network of the 21 neighbourhoods. Narrow or one-way streets are only 6 % of it, so width rarely blocks a vehicle. Slope is the difficulty: 48 % of streets count as steep, with a mean grade of 7.2 %.

On a slope both pulling up with a heavy vehicle and carrying loads to the door get harder; stopping on a level spot and carrying boxes up by hand may be needed (our inference). The map holds 29 parking areas totalling 43,778 m²; free space is not documented. Only 2 % of the 1,736 buildings have floor counts, and there is no lift data.

Our depot is in neighbouring Sancaktepe, in Abdurrahmangazi, so the trip needs no bridge crossing. We did not time a route for Merkez; across Çekmeköy the car-profile estimate puts addresses at roughly 5–21 km and 5–25 minutes without traffic (12.2 km and 10 minutes for the district centre point), which shifts with address and hour, and we promise no duration.

Fixed points in the neighbourhood

• Municipality and two parks on Piri Reis Caddesi

  Çekmeköy Municipality's main service building is at Merkez Mahallesi, Piri Reis Caddesi No:5, and the municipality gives the same street for Kent Parkı and Belediye Bahçesi. One street name is enough for a driver; kerb space there is not documented.

• The Governorate on Erenler Caddesi

  Çekmeköy District Governorate is in Merkez, at Erenler Caddesi No:8, a different street from the municipality. A vehicle sent to the wrong one costs an extra loop on a hilly neighbourhood (our inference).

• Çekmeköy Mosque on Oğuzhan Caddesi

  The municipality's mosque list gives Çekmeköy Mosque at Merkez Mahallesi, Oğuzhan Cad. No:21. A building visible from afar may help a driver (our inference); nothing is documented about parking beside it.

• Street addresses of the parks

  The municipality places Soğukdere Parkı on Üsküdar Caddesi in front of Ceylan Sitesi, Küçük Koru Parkı on Köroğlu Caddesi and Ayazma Caddesi Parkı on Oğuzeli Caddesi. For a gated estate, ask its management about the freight lift and vehicle entry beforehand (our inference).

1. 1.8 m³ for a 1+0

   Leaving a studio or one-person flat, a bed, a few boxes and a small wardrobe usually fit. On a slope, many small boxes carry more easily than a few large pieces.

2. 2.15 and 22 m³ for a 1+1 and 2+1

   The mix of flats in the 1,736 buildings is not documented, so we guess no housing type. For a renovation 15 m³ often holds just the large pieces; an emptied 2+1 usually needs 22 m³.

3. 3.28 m³ for a 3+1

   For a whole four-room home or two homes merging. We work out the amount that fits at the free survey.

4. 4.Preparing on a slope

   Take large furniture apart, keep boxes small and label the heavy ones. Bring a measured list and a photo of the street outside your door; you can visit your room any day you like.
