Why belongings leave Bakırköy for storage
Storage demand in Bakırköy comes from a dense district with almost no new housing land. The District Governorate counts 15 neighbourhoods and about 218 thousand residents (no year given), with a daytime population around a million. Cevizlik, Yenimahalle and Sakızağacı are the oldest areas; the Ataköy estates date from after 1960. The Governorate's economy page notes a high share of older buildings in a 2010–2011 text, which we do not read as a current ratio. Mapped level data separates the fabric: Ataköy 2-5-6. Kısım averages 10.2 storeys (44 percent of buildings tagged), 7-8-9-10. Kısım 10.4 (28 percent). Basınköy averages 1.3 and Yeşilköy 1.4, but only 1 and 11 percent of their buildings are tagged.
Official papers on transformation are thin. The Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality's zoning-note amendment covers all 15 neighbourhoods, with no district-specific project listed. The Municipality displayed a 1/1000 revision plan, approved 24.07.2026, from 07.08 to 06.09.2026; its report is a PDF, so we state nothing about its content. Residents describe contractor activity after extra-storey permits, an unofficial remark from a few posts. When a flat goes into renovation its contents need somewhere to wait.
From Bakırköy to the depot: the Bosphorus and the streets
A vehicle reaching our depot in Abdurrahmangazi from the Florya end of Bakırköy leaves the European side by crossing the Bosphorus. Our car-profile estimate from OSRM / OpenStreetMap (September 2026) gives about 37–46 km and 35–45 minutes without traffic: 37.5 km and 36 minutes from the Zeytinburnu side, 44.5 km and 42 minutes to the district centre, 45.8 km and 43 minutes to Florya. Loaded vehicles and traffic change this; we promise no time.
Ataköy's streets are relatively flat, with mean grades of 2.3–3.8 percent across its four neighbourhoods. One-way or narrow streets make up 11 percent in 1. and 3-4-11. Kısım and 37–38 percent in the other two. The old market neighbourhoods are the opposite: 88 percent in Yenimahalle, 82 in Sakızağacı, 68 in Zeytinlik, 61 in Cevizlik. The Municipality's site has no published rule on a moving vehicle using the road, and its services menu has no Zabıta page. Its projects page mentions undated street renewals on Kuşkonmaz in Yeşilyurt and Çolak İbrahim in Osmaniye; a site like that can narrow a street for a while.
Şenlikköy to Yenimahalle: street and parking notes
Of Bakırköy's 15 neighbourhoods these six differ the most. Figures are approximate, computed from OpenStreetMap and the Copernicus elevation model; read grades relative to one another.
Ataköy 7-8-9-10. Kısım Mahallesi
2.066 km² with 12.5 km of local streets; 37 percent are one-way or narrow, mean grade 2.6 percent, 8 percent steep. 67 parking areas are mapped. The difficulty is the block entrance and management rules more than the street.
Sakızağacı Mahallesi
0.384 km² with 2.9 km of local streets, 82 percent one-way or narrow. Mean grade of 5.6 percent and 41 percent steep are the district's highest. One parking area is mapped. Levels are tagged for 1 percent of 481 buildings (average 19), so we count floors at the survey.
Yenimahalle Mahallesi
In this small 0.23 km² neighbourhood, 88 percent of 2.7 km of local streets are one-way or narrow, the district's highest share. Mean grade 4.7 percent, 29 percent steep, one parking area. Level data across 408 buildings rounds to 0 percent.
Osmaniye Mahallesi
13 km of local streets, 33 percent one-way or narrow, yet a mean grade of 5.4 percent and 32 percent steep make it one of the hilliest. 20 parking areas. A renewal on Çolak İbrahim Sokağı is on the Municipality's project list.
Yeşilköy Mahallesi
At 12.359 km² the district's largest neighbourhood; 59 percent of its 27.4 km of local streets are one-way or narrow. 85 mapped parking areas are the most in the district. The District Governorate describes it as a villa-type settlement.
Şenlikköy Mahallesi
24.8 km of local streets, the second-longest network after Yeşilköy; 44 percent are one-way or narrow, 16 percent steep. One driver writes that a collapsed road near the Florya station pushed traffic into inner streets; a single post.

From Ataköy blocks to Yeşilköy: notes for Bakırköy
1.Renovation or a full move? Choose the room to match
Rooms are 8 m³ for a 1+0, 15 m³ for a 1+1, 22 m³ for a 2+1 and 28 m³ for a 3+1. A whole home usually fits the room of the same name; one room's contents waiting out a renovation may fit a smaller room. We size it together at the free survey.
2.In Ataköy, ask the estate management first
Two of the larger neighbourhoods average above 10 storeys, though level data is partial. Ask about freight-lift size, booking rules and how long a vehicle may stay at the block. Residents write about a parking shortage at the 5. Kısım market, so we choose the loading time accordingly.
3.Use small boxes on old market streets
The vehicle can stop at the head of the street; boxes are carried by hand from there. Medium boxes labelled by room help.
4.Separate heavy pieces on slopes
In Sakızağacı, Osmaniye, Cevizlik and Zeytinlik, 30–41 percent of streets are steep. We can discuss a separate run and extra crew for a fridge or wardrobe carcass.
5.Sort old items before they reach the room
The Municipality's site has no page on rubble or old-furniture collection; ask the switchboard (0212 414 97 00) for the Cleaning Works extension, 8506. Set aside what you will discard so the room holds only what you keep.
Room sizes and monthly prices

Questions about storage in Bakırköy
Do we have to cross the Bosphorus going from Bakırköy to the depot?
Yes, Bakırköy is on the European side and our depot on the Anatolian side. The car-profile estimate is about 37–46 km and 35–45 minutes without traffic; we promise no time for a loaded vehicle.
What if the vehicle cannot enter narrow streets such as Yenimahalle or Sakızağacı?
It comes as far as it can and boxes are carried by hand from there. With 88 and 82 percent of streets one-way or narrow, that distance can be long; we choose the stopping point at the survey.
During renovation, should I store everything or just part?
Either works. A smaller room can hold one emptied room's contents; for the whole home, the room matching your home type is more comfortable. We measure at the survey.
Do I need a municipal permit for the moving vehicle?
We found no published rule on the Municipality's site. To be sure, call the switchboard (0212 414 97 00) and ask for the Zabıta extension, 8301; we check the waiting spot at your address at the survey.
