Why belongings leave Gaziosmanpaşa for storage

The District Governorate lists 16 neighbourhoods, about 478 thousand residents (no year stated) and 1,173 hectares, roughly 11.7 km², left after the 2008 split. The map has the most buildings in Karadeniz (3,210) and Barbaros Hayrettin Paşa (2,738). Level data is almost absent (7 percent in Merkez at best, 0–2 percent in most), so we quote level averages only for tagged buildings.

The Governorate's economy page mentions a construction atmosphere, but its text rests on 2009 figures. The only official transformation document we found is the İBB zoning-note page: a risky-building amendment tied to the Merkez TEM South revision plan approved on 21.09.2004, listing 15 neighbourhoods without Karayolları. We found no project or reserve-area page. Residents' posts about demolition around Sarıgöl are accounts, not documents. During an evacuation or a refit, a locked room is a simple stopgap.

From Gaziosmanpaşa to the depot: the Bosphorus and the streets

Whether it starts at Uluyol-Bereç or on the Karadeniz side, a vehicle going from Gaziosmanpaşa to our depot in Abdurrahmangazi crosses the Bosphorus. Our car-profile estimate from OSRM / OpenStreetMap (September 2026) gives 39.5 km and 32 minutes without traffic from the district centre, 42.4 km and 33 minutes from the Karadeniz side, and 40.8 km and 37 minutes from Uluyol-Bereç. A loaded vehicle and the day's traffic can change this, so we promise no time.

In 8 of the 16 neighbourhoods more than half of the local streets are narrow or one-way; in Yıldıztabya the share is 89 percent. Mean grade stays above 6 percent everywhere (6.3–10.3 percent). Grades come from a surface model, so compare neighbourhoods with each other. 30 parking areas are mapped in total and 7 neighbourhoods have none. The Municipality's website was closed to foreign IPs on the research day, so we could not confirm a rule on a moving vehicle using the road temporarily; on one-way streets ask Zabıta first.

Six of 16 neighbourhoods, from Yıldıztabya to Sarıgöl

We picked six of the 16 neighbourhoods whose numbers differ most. Data comes from OpenStreetMap and the Copernicus elevation model.

  • Yıldıztabya Mahallesi

89 percent of 13.7 km of local streets are narrow or one-way, the district's highest share; only 3 percent are one-way, so the narrowness is width. Mean grade is 9.5 percent, 60 percent of streets steep. 2 parking areas are mapped; level data rounds to 0 percent.

  • Yenidoğan Mahallesi

The shortest local network at 5.5 km, with only 5 percent of streets narrow or one-way. The issue is slope: a mean grade of 10.3 percent and 69 percent steep streets, both the district's highest. No parking area is mapped.

  • Karadeniz Mahallesi

29.9 km of local streets and 3,210 buildings, the most in the district. 68 percent of streets are narrow or one-way, and the one-way share of 62 percent is the highest. 4 parking areas are mapped; level data covers 2 percent of buildings (averaging 5.8 storeys). The M7 Karadeniz Mah. station is here in the İBB layer.

  • Karayolları Mahallesi

The district's largest neighbourhood at 1.538 km². The narrow-or-one-way share is 57 percent but only 8 percent are one-way. About 1 percent of buildings carry level data, averaging 10.7 storeys, the highest average on the map. One parking area is mapped.

  • Merkez Mahallesi

59 percent of local streets are narrow or one-way, 44 percent one-way. With 7 mapped parking areas it has the most in the district, and level data covers 7 percent of buildings (averaging 4.7). In 2013 posts residents describe the square as a busy knot where at least 8–9 roads meet.

  • Sarıgöl Mahallesi

Only 7 percent of local streets are narrow or one-way; the streets are wide, but mean grade is 8.4 percent with 55 percent steep. No parking area is mapped. Residents write of demolition and TOKİ housing here; we found no official source, but plan the time around site traffic.

Slopes, narrow streets and renewal: preparing in Gaziosmanpaşa

  1. 1.Whole home or only large pieces: picking the room

Rooms are 8 m³ for a 1+0, 15 m³ for a 1+1, 22 m³ for a 2+1 and 28 m³ for a 3+1. A whole home usually fits the room of the same name; for a refit with only large pieces, one size smaller can do.

  2. 2.Separate heavy pieces on slopes

In Yenidoğan, Şemsipaşa, Yıldıztabya, Bağlarbaşı, Fevzi Çakmak and Sarıgöl, 55–69 percent of streets are steep. We can plan a separate run for the fridge and large wardrobe; half-full medium boxes are easier to carry.

  3. 3.Gather boxes at the door on narrow streets

In Yıldıztabya, Kazım Karabekir and Karadeniz, 68–89 percent of local streets are narrow or one-way. Boxes stacked at the entrance and labelled by room shorten the wait.

  4. 4.Ask management at estate entrances

In Karayolları and Sarıgöl the mapped average is about 10 storeys, but few buildings carry that data. Ask management about freight-lift rules, car-park clearance and security sign-in.

  5. 5.Split belongings in three when leaving a transformation

Going to a temporary address, going into the room, going away. The demolition and handover timetable is for the Municipality and the owner; we plan pickup and delivery around it.

Questions about storage in Gaziosmanpaşa

Do you cross the Bosphorus on the way to the depot from Gaziosmanpaşa?

Yes. Gaziosmanpaşa is on the European side, the depot on the Anatolian side. Our car-profile estimate is 39.5 km and 32 minutes without traffic from the district centre. A loaded vehicle and traffic change the time; which vehicle uses which crossing is settled at the survey.

Can you collect from very narrow streets like those in Yıldıztabya?

Yes, but the vehicle usually stays on the main road and boxes are carried by hand. At the survey we pick the safest point nearest the door, and suggest splitting things into small boxes.

What if the vehicle cannot reach the door on a slope in Yenidoğan?

Belongings are carried by hand from wherever the vehicle can stop. Steep streets make up 69 percent of the neighbourhood, so we settle a separate run for heavy pieces at the survey.

What should go into the room if I am leaving because of a transformation?

Put into the room whatever you will not need until you reach the new home, and keep what you need at the temporary address with you.
