Esenler storage

From Esenler our depot in Sancaktepe is roughly 39–44 km away, and starting on the European side the trip crosses the Bosphorus. In Yavuz Selim 84 percent of local streets are narrow or one-way and in Namık Kemal 63 percent are steep, so we pick room and stopping spot accordingly.

  • Smallest room: 1+0, 8 m³, ₺4,000 / month; the first month of room rent is on us.

Why Esenler needs storage: dense blocks, little level data, urban renewal

Esenler is tightly built. The neighbourhood populations on the District Governorate's mukhtar page add up to about 427,900; the page gives no year. The 17 neighbourhood polygons total roughly 18.4 km², of which Oruçreis is 8.8 km², while Turgut Reis fits 2,449 buildings into 0.584 km². A lifelong resident describes wall-to-wall blocks of three to five storeys on narrow streets.

Level data is mapped for only 0–1 percent of buildings in 15 of the 17 neighbourhoods; just 15 Temmuz (20 percent, 4.7 storeys on average) and Çifte Havuzlar (26 percent, 2.4) give an idea, so elsewhere we count floors at the survey. Our one official renewal document is the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality's 2022 zoning-note amendment; we found no İBB project in the district. One resident writes that people left Tuna, formerly Karabayır, because of renewal; we could not confirm dates or phases. Things can wait in a locked room until the new flat is ready; there is no maximum term.

39–44 km of road and narrow or steep streets: Esenler to the depot

The Bosphorus sits on the route between the depot and Esenler: the Davutpaşa-YTÜ area and the Oruçreis side are on the European side, the depot on the Anatolian side. Our car estimate from OSRM / OpenStreetMap (September 2026) gives about 39–44 km and 33–35 minutes without traffic: 38.6 km and 34 minutes around Davutpaşa-YTÜ, 43.8 km and 33 minutes to the district centre, 43.5 km and 33 minutes on the Oruçreis side. A loaded vehicle can take longer; we promise no times.

In Yavuz Selim, Mimar Sinan, Fevzi Çakmak and Çifte Havuzlar, 59–84 percent of local streets are narrow or one-way; in the other 13 neighbourhoods the share never exceeds 29 percent. On slope, 11 of 17 neighbourhoods have more than 40 percent steep streets and the highest mean grade is in Namık Kemal, 8.9 percent; grades come from a surface model, so read them relatively. One resident writes that narrow streets are parked on both sides. The Municipality's website was unreachable on the research day, so we give no vehicle-permit information. We choose the stopping spot and time at the survey.

Six neighbourhoods from Yavuz Selim to Oruçreis

Figures come from OpenStreetMap and the Copernicus elevation model; read grades relatively. Population is from the mukhtar page, without a year.

  • Yavuz Selim Mahallesi

235 buildings and 1.8 km of local streets in 0.24 km²; 84 percent of streets are one-way or narrow, the district's highest share. 8 parking areas are mapped and the İBB layer places the Esenler station here. About 3,500 residents.

  • Mimar Sinan Mahallesi

686 buildings fit into 0.172 km² and no parking area is mapped. 66 percent of streets are one-way or narrow, mean grade 8.1 percent, 54 percent steep.

  • Çifte Havuzlar Mahallesi

59 percent of streets are narrow or one-way, yet mean grade is 4.4 percent. With 29 parking areas it has the district's largest parking inventory. Level data covers 26 percent of its 267 buildings (2.4 storeys on average).

  • Namık Kemal Mahallesi

The steepest neighbourhood: mean grade 8.9 percent, 63 percent of local streets steep. 837 buildings in 0.234 km², no parking area, 22 percent of streets narrow or one-way.

  • Turgut Reis Mahallesi

2,449 buildings, the most of any neighbourhood. Only 1 percent of its 19.1 km of local streets is narrow or one-way, but mean grade is 8.1 percent with 54 percent steep; no parking area. About 44,000 residents.

  • Oruçreis Mahallesi

At 8.777 km² by far the largest: 28.1 km of local streets, 6 percent narrow or one-way, mean grade 5 percent. 9 parking areas for 2,187 buildings.

From Yavuz Selim to Namık Kemal: five ways to prepare

  1. 1.In wall-to-wall flats, compare the 15 and 22 m³ rooms first

Rooms are 8 m³ for a 1+0, 15 m³ for a 1+1, 22 m³ for a 2+1 and 28 m³ for a 3+1. A home usually fits the room of the same name; seasonal items may need one size smaller. We measure with you at the survey.

  2. 2.Agree the entry into Yavuz Selim and Mimar Sinan streets early

In these two neighbourhoods 84 and 66 percent of local streets are narrow or one-way. Gathering boxes at the building entrance shortens the carry; we pick the street end the vehicle enters from.

  3. 3.Keep boxes small on the Namık Kemal and Menderes slopes

Mean grade is 8.9 percent in Namık Kemal and 7.6 percent in Menderes, with 63 and 52 percent of streets steep. Hand-carrying distances can grow, so pack small boxes of even weight.

  4. 4.Split your things into two piles for a renewal move-out

One resident each in Tuna and Oruçreis writes that renewal has begun. Label what goes to the new flat apart from what waits in the room; with no maximum term, an open handover date is easier to live with.

  5. 5.Write the address with neighbourhood and street number

Most street names on the mukhtar list are numbered (845 Sk., 69 Sk.). For Atışalanı the old name Havaalanı also circulates; write both.

Questions about storage in Esenler

How long is the drive from Esenler to the depot?

About 39–44 km and 33–35 minutes without traffic by car. The road crosses the Bosphorus and a loaded vehicle can take longer. Source: OSRM / OpenStreetMap, September 2026.

Can you collect from a narrow street such as Yavuz Selim or Mimar Sinan?

Yes, we collect from the door anywhere in İstanbul. In these neighbourhoods 84 and 66 percent of streets are one-way or narrow; we decide at the survey where the vehicle enters.

Atışalanı or Havaalanı: which name should I write in the address?

The District Governorate's mukhtar list says Atışalanı, the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality's 2022 zoning note says Havaalanı. One resident writes the name changed in 2024; we found no decision. Writing both is enough.

I must leave my home because of the Tuna renewal; how long can I keep things?

The rooms have no maximum term. We could not confirm the dates or phases of the Tuna renewal from an official source; for rent and evacuation support, ask the district municipality.
