Why things go into storage in Bağcılar: density, trade centres and renewal

The Municipality gives the area as 22 km² and the 2025 TÜİK address-based population as 707,635, and adds that about a fifth of residents are students. In such a dense district a room often takes seasonal belongings that do not fit, or covers the gap between two homes. The District Governorate lists the trade centres: İSTOÇ in Mahmutbey on 1.1 million m², Oto Center with 662 workplaces, the Printers and Packagers Site with 275 members.

Level data is mapped for 98 percent of buildings in Göztepe and 18 percent in Yenigün; nowhere else does it pass 8 percent, so we give no single level average for the district. The İBB page of 14.03.2022 on the risky-building zoning note lists all 22 neighbourhoods; Yıldıztepe and İnönü are also priority areas in the disaster-priority-area work, and 235 residents were surveyed in the Yıldıztepe pilot zone on 05.10.2021. One resident writes that Mahmutbey's old garden-village fabric has become dense construction; one person's view, but a temporary room can bridge evacuation and a new flat.

Loading in Bağcılar: a 47–50 km drive and numbered streets

The road from İstoç to our Anatolian-side depot crosses the Bosphorus, because Bağcılar is on the European side. Our car-profile estimate from OSRM / OpenStreetMap (September 2026) gives about 47–50 km and 34–37 minutes without traffic: 46.7 km and 34 minutes for İstoç, 47.8 km and 37 minutes for Üçyüzlü, 49.8 km and 37 minutes for the district centre. A loaded vehicle may differ; we promise no duration.

The District Governorate counts 103 avenues and 2,685 streets; street names are often numbers, and the Municipality's waste centre is on 2145th Street. One resident writes that the streets look very alike, so confirm neighbourhood and street number together. The narrow or one-way share is 30 percent in Kemalpaşa, 21 percent in Mahmutbey and 15 percent in 15 Temmuz; every other neighbourhood is at 12 percent or below. Eight of the 22 have no mapped parking area. The Municipality describes a flat to gently undulating plateau at 50–70 m; our surface model carries building noise, so read the steep share (60 percent in Fatih, 24 in Hürriyet) only relatively. The Zabıta page has no rule on a moving vehicle using the road temporarily; ask Zabıta beforehand on narrow streets.

From Kemalpaşa to Göztepe: loading data for five neighbourhoods

Five of the 22 neighbourhoods, chosen where the numbers differ most. Shares rest on OpenStreetMap and the Copernicus surface model; read slope relatively. Narrow or one-way share is the proportion of local street length.

  • Kemalpaşa Mahallesi

16.4 km of local streets in 0.571 km², 30 percent narrow or one-way, the district's highest share. The steep share is 55 percent, mean grade 7.5 percent. 366 buildings and one parking area are mapped; level data covers 7 percent of buildings, averaging 3 storeys.

  • Mahmutbey Mahallesi

At 4.708 km² the district's largest neighbourhood: 44.6 km of local streets beside 32.9 km of through roads. 21 percent of local streets are narrow or one-way, 32 percent steep. Level data covers only 1 percent of 1,480 buildings, so the 13.7-storey average is not the general stock. Residents write that Dilmenler Caddesi fills with parked cars in the evening; agree the loading time beforehand.

  • Göztepe Mahallesi

Level data covers 98 percent of 1,963 buildings, averaging 3.9 storeys. 4 percent of 23.9 km of local streets are narrow or one-way and 44 percent steep. With 21 parking areas covering 17,939 m², it has the most in the district, 12.9 per km².

  • Merkez Mahallesi

12.1 km of local streets in 0.856 km²; narrow or one-way share 9 percent, steep share 45 percent. 8 parking areas total 37,450 m², 9.3 per km², second only to Göztepe. The T1 Bağcılar and M1B Üçyüzlü stations are here.

  • Sancaktepe Mahallesi

It shares its name with the district of our depot, but this is a small Bağcılar neighbourhood; write the district in the address. 10.2 km of local streets in 0.396 km², 12 percent narrow or one-way; 55 percent steep, mean grade 7.9 percent.

From numbered street to housing estate: five ways to prepare

  1. 1.Pick the vehicle's spot early in Kemalpaşa and Mahmutbey

Here 30 and 21 percent of local streets are narrow or one-way. At the survey we choose where the vehicle can wait; gathering boxes near the door shortens the carry.

  2. 2.Write the address with neighbourhood and street number

"2145th Street" alone is not enough; add the neighbourhood, building name and door number. Bağcılar has a Sancaktepe neighbourhood, so write the district too to avoid confusion with ours.

  3. 3.Pick the room by what you are storing

Rooms are 8 m³ for a 1+0, 15 m³ for a 1+1, 22 m³ for a 2+1 and 28 m³ for a 3+1. A flat's belongings usually fit the room of the same name; for shop or office stock we measure boxes and the largest piece together.

  4. 4.Talk to management at high-rise entrances

The mapped average is 13.7 storeys in Mahmutbey and 11 in 15 Temmuz, yet the data covers only 1 percent of buildings. Learn the freight-lift and loading rules beforehand.

  5. 5.Sort belongings into three before an evacuation

In neighbourhoods on the renewal agenda, such as Yıldıztepe and İnönü, sort things into room, keep with you and discard.
