What brings people to storage in Kartal
According to the District Governorate, Kartal covers 38.54 km², with 20 neighbourhoods and 2,186 streets; the Marmara Sea lies to the south, Sultanbeyli and Sancaktepe to the north. The official pages give no population figure, so we do not quote one. Building data on the map shows two different textures: an average of 9.3 storeys in Kordonboyu and 10.1 in Soğanlık Yeni, against 1.6 in Gümüşpınar and 1.7 in Orta. Level data is tagged for only 12 percent of buildings in Kordonboyu and 7 percent in Soğanlık Yeni, so those averages are incomplete, but they are enough to say that tall blocks stand beside low buildings.
On renovation, the official sources are clear. Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality's zoning-note amendment brought the risky-building rule to all 20 neighbourhoods. For the reserve construction area of about 2.12 hectares in Karlıktepe, the 1/5000 and 1/1000 plans were approved on 21.01.2025; that suggests building sites and new housing around there in the coming years, though we found no published eviction timetable. A locked room eases the gap for anyone waiting for a new home. Surplus furniture from a move to a smaller flat, a bedroom set from a flat under refit or an office's archive boxes can all go in the same room; residents write that office blocks are rising along the E-5 in Soğanlık, a community observation from a few posts rather than official data.
From your Kartal address to the depot
The depot is in Abdurrahmangazi, Sancaktepe; like Kartal it sits on the Anatolian side, so the trip has no Bosphorus crossing. Our car-profile estimate from OSRM / OpenStreetMap (September 2026) puts Soğanlık at 11.6 km and 13 minutes, the district centre at 11.6 km and 11 minutes, and the Başak waterfront at 15.7 km and 15 minutes. Overall that is about 12–16 km and 10–15 minutes without traffic. A loaded vehicle and E-5 traffic can stretch this, so we promise no time. Items are collected from your door anywhere in Istanbul and brought back when you ask.
The district does not load one way. Mean grade runs from 3.6 to 8.9 percent depending on the neighbourhood; steep streets make up 18 percent in Yalı and Topselvi but 61 percent in Yakacık Yeni. One-way or narrow streets are 37 percent in Yukarı, 21 percent in Atalar and 17 percent in Petrol İş, against 1 percent in Kordonboyu and Soğanlık Yeni and 0 percent in Uğur Mumcu and Yakacık Yeni. The map shows 26 parking areas in Kordonboyu and none in Gümüşpınar or Petrol İş. Figures are approximate; the free survey shows your own street.
From Yukarı to Hürriyet: street and slope notes in Kartal
Computed from OpenStreetMap and the Copernicus elevation model, so approximate. We picked the six neighbourhoods whose numbers differ most.
Yukarı Mahallesi
The district's smallest neighbourhood at 0.3 km², with 7.1 km of local streets. 37 percent of streets are one-way or narrow, the highest share in Kartal; mean grade is 7.4 percent and 52 percent of streets are steep. Three parking areas are mapped. The municipal service building stands here, so choose the vehicle's stopping spot early.
Kordonboyu Mahallesi
One of the flattest parts: mean grade 3.7 percent, 20 percent of streets steep, 1 percent one-way or narrow. 26 mapped parking areas (13.6 per km²) is the district's highest count. Local streets total only 7.5 km and buildings average 9.3 storeys, but level data covers 12 percent of buildings, so we confirm the lift at the survey.
Hürriyet Mahallesi
At 55.2 km it has Kartal's longest local street network and its highest mean grade: 8.9 percent, with 59 percent of streets steep. One-way or narrow streets are just 2 percent; the trouble is the climb rather than street width. 15 parking areas and 2,214 buildings are mapped.
Petrol İş Mahallesi
17 percent of streets are one-way or narrow and 43 percent steep; mean grade 6.2 percent. No parking area is mapped. Level data covers 83 percent of buildings and averages 6.2 storeys, which points to multi-storey apartment blocks.
Uğur Mumcu Mahallesi
No one-way or narrow streets (0 percent), but 45 percent of streets are steep with a mean grade of 6.9 percent. 607 buildings show 8.3 storeys on average from 24 percent coverage; in tall blocks the lift and, on the slope, the vehicle distance both matter.
Yakacık Yeni Mahallesi
At 7.86 km² the largest neighbourhood, yet it holds only 364 buildings and 13.7 km of local streets. 61 percent of streets are steep, mean grade 8.7 percent, and there are no one-way or narrow streets. One parking area is mapped, so we settle the vehicle's stopping point at the survey.

Preparation tips from Kordonboyu to Yakacık
1.A whole flat or just a bedroom? Pick the room
Rooms are 8 m³ for a 1+0, 15 m³ for a 1+1, 22 m³ for a 2+1 and 28 m³ for a 3+1. A flat usually fits the room of the same name; if you only keep a bedroom or surplus furniture, a smaller room may do. We measure and settle it at the survey.
2.On hillside addresses, discuss vehicle distance
In Hürriyet, Yakacık Çarşı, Yakacık Yeni, Uğur Mumcu and Karlıktepe 43–61 percent of streets are steep. We look at how close the vehicle can get during the survey; if the carry is long, heavy pieces such as wardrobes can go on a separate trip.
3.Choose the stopping point on narrow streets in advance
In Yukarı, Atalar and Petrol İş the vehicle may have to wait near a pavement or junction. Picking the spot together lowers the chance of blocking neighbours while boxes come down.
4.In tall blocks, find out about the freight lift
In Kordonboyu, Soğanlık Yeni and Uğur Mumcu the map shows 8.3–10.1 storeys on average; level data is incomplete, but the lift will decide the job. Ask building management for the freight-lift size, its rules and the security sign-in.
5.Pick the day and hour around the courthouse and hospital
Residents write that the area around the courthouse and hospital in Cevizli and Esentepe jams on Tuesday–Thursday hearing days (a community observation). For a pickup there, an early morning or another weekday is easier.

Questions about storage in Kartal
Can you collect from a hilly neighbourhood like Yakacık or Hürriyet?
Yes, with preparation. Mean grade is 8.9 percent in Hürriyet and 8.7 percent in Yakacık Yeni, with 59–61 percent of streets steep. We see how far the vehicle can climb at the survey and plan heavy pieces as a separate run if the carry is long.
How far is the depot from Kartal and how long does it take?
By car-profile estimate, addresses in the district are about 12–16 km and 10–15 minutes away without traffic; Soğanlık and the centre are 11.6 km, Başak 15.7 km. The route stays on the Anatolian side with no Bosphorus crossing. A loaded vehicle and E-5 traffic may differ, so we promise no time.
I live around Cevizli or Dragos. Is my address in Kartal or Maltepe?
Residents write that the district boundary is confusing around Cevizli and Dragos (a community observation). According to the Governorate's history page, the Dragos stream forms the border between Maltepe and Kartal, and the metropolitan zoning-note list places both Orhantepe and Cevizli among Kartal's 20 neighbourhoods. Give us your neighbourhood name and we check it together.
What should I watch for when collecting from a tall block in Kordonboyu?
Buildings average up to 9.3 storeys but level data on the map is incomplete, so learn the lift size and the complex's freight-lift rule in advance. Streets in Kordonboyu are flat and 26 parking areas are mapped, so where the vehicle stands is usually easy.
Should I put old furniture in storage or get rid of it?
Keeping what you will use in the room and giving the rest to the municipality saves cubic metres. According to Kartal Municipality's notice it collects bulky items such as sofas, wardrobes, beds and bed bases from the address on a daily schedule, with 444 4 578 or its WhatsApp line 0532 136 90 90 named for requests. Leaving items on the street without a request can lead to penalties.
