Beyoğlu storage
Beyoğlu is on the European side and our depot in Sancaktepe on the Anatolian side, so every pickup and delivery crosses the Bosphorus, roughly 29–35 km by car. Neighbourhood data shows which room usually fits and where loading gets hard.

Why belongings leave Beyoğlu homes for a while
In Beyoğlu, things usually go into storage not because the flat is too small but because the home is being emptied or renovated. The municipality's history page lists 45 neighbourhoods and about 225 thousand residents, its Zabıta page 241,520; neither has a year, so we treat neither as exact. Floor counts are mapped for no more than 10 percent of buildings in any neighbourhood, so we quote building height only for mapped ones and check stairs and lifts at the survey.
İBB's plan-note amendment for risky buildings covers 17 Beyoğlu neighbourhoods; the areas around Cihangir, Galata, Karaköy and Taksim are not listed. The municipality's Urban Transformation Directorate handles evacuation, demolition and owner agreements in project areas, with field offices in Fetihtepe and Okmeydanı. We found no text on rent or relocation support. Residents writing about Tarlabaşı say expectations of transformation continue; we saw no timetable, so we give no dates. A locked room is a practical stopgap between homes.
From Beyoğlu to the depot, and up to your door
Our depot is in Abdurrahmangazi Mahallesi on the Anatolian side, so every trip from Beyoğlu crosses the Bosphorus. A car-profile estimate from OSRM / OpenStreetMap (September 2026) gives Kabataş 29.0 km and 27 minutes without traffic, the district centre 32.9 km and 29 minutes, Şişhane 35.1 km and 32 minutes. A loaded vehicle's route and time can differ, and we promise no times.
The municipality's history page places the district north of the Golden Horn, between the Kasımpaşa and Dolmabahçe valleys. Its cleaning page says streets with a 10–15 percent grade are swept by machine, while steeper, stepped and narrow ones are swept by hand; Metro İstanbul gives a 70 m height difference along the Taksim–Kabataş funicular. In our own calculation only one of 45 neighbourhoods, Kemankeş Karamustafa Paşa, has a mean grade below 6 percent. 18 have no mapped parking area, and residents writing about Cihangir, Karaköy and Halıcıoğlu call parking hard to find.
The Zabıta page says vehicles blocking pedestrians or the pavement in areas closed to traffic after 10:00 are fined, without listing the streets. We found no separate permit rule for moving vehicles. Some posts say streets around Taksim Square are barricaded without announced reopening.
Neighbourhood by neighbourhood: narrow lanes and slopes
No neighbourhood exceeds 0.7 km², so the differences lie in street shape. Figures are approximate (OpenStreetMap, Copernicus elevation model); read grades relative to each other.
Cihangir Mahallesi
82 percent of 2.6 km of local streets are narrow or one-way, the highest share of the 45. Steep streets make up 72 percent and 4 parking areas are mapped. Only 3 percent of 355 buildings carry floor data (mean 5.1).
Tomtom Mahallesi
79 percent of local streets are steep, the highest share in the district; mean grade 12.8 percent. The narrow or one-way share is 25 percent and 1 parking area is mapped.
Asmalı Mescit Mahallesi
Mean grade of 13.8 percent is the district's highest; 67 percent of streets are steep and 45 percent narrow or one-way. No parking area is mapped. Floor data covers 4 percent of buildings (mean 8), so stairs need checking at the survey.
Kılıçali Paşa Mahallesi
71 percent of streets are narrow or one-way, but mean grade is 8.1 percent and the steep share 46 percent. Its 5 mapped parking areas, shared only with Katip Mustafa Çelebi, are the district's highest count.
Fetihtepe Mahallesi
11.7 km, the district's third-longest local street network, and 510 buildings. 23 percent of streets are narrow or one-way, mean grade is 9 percent. Mapped buildings average 10.2 floors (5 percent of buildings). No parking area is mapped.
Piyalepaşa Mahallesi
16.2 km of local streets and 837 buildings, the largest street network and building count in the district. Narrow or one-way share 12 percent, steep streets 52 percent, 2 parking areas. Floor data is so sparse it rounds to 0 percent (mean 5 where present).

Advice from Cihangir to Tomtom before you move
1.Pick the room by volume
Our rooms are 8 m³ for a 1+0, 15 m³ for a 1+1, 22 m³ for a 2+1 and 28 m³ for a 3+1. A flat's belongings usually fit the room of the same name; seasonal items or only large pieces may fit a size smaller.
2.Take furniture apart before narrow stairs
Residents describing Tarlabaşı mention old houses with wooden stairs. Dismantle beds and wardrobes beforehand and show us the stair width at the survey.
3.Settle where the vehicle will stand
In Cihangir 82 percent of local streets are narrow or one-way, in Kılıçali Paşa 71 percent, in Firuzağa 69 percent. Gathering boxes near the door shortens loading.
4.Separate heavy pieces on steep streets
In Tomtom 79 percent of streets are steep, in Bereketzade 76 percent. We can take a fridge or large wardrobe on a separate run.
5.Sort what to dispose of from what to keep
The municipality says discarded furniture is collected on a schedule and names only its contact centre, 444 0 160. Storing only what you keep saves space and loading runs.
Room sizes and monthly prices
| Home size | Room volume | Monthly rent |
|---|---|---|
| Fits a 1+0 home | 8 m³ | ₺4,000 |
| Fits a 1+1 home | 15 m³ | ₺7,000 |
| Fits a 2+1 home | 22 m³ | ₺8,000 |
| Fits a 3+1 home | 28 m³ | ₺9,000 |

Questions about storage in Beyoğlu
Can you collect from one-way streets like Cihangir or Firuzağa?
Yes, we collect from the door anywhere in İstanbul. In Firuzağa 69 percent of local streets are narrow or one-way; if the vehicle cannot reach the door, boxes are carried to where it can stop.
How far is the depot from Beyoğlu?
By car-profile estimate 29.0–35.1 km; without traffic Kabataş is 27 minutes, the district centre 29, Şişhane 32. A loaded vehicle's time can differ and we promise none.
Can you collect around Taksim or İstiklal?
The Zabıta page says pavement obstruction in areas closed after 10:00 is fined and lists no areas; we found no permit rule for moving vehicles. Plan the time ahead and check with Zabıta.
Can you collect from a tall block like those in Fetihtepe?
Yes. Mapped buildings there average 10.2 floors, though the data covers 5 percent of buildings. Pass on management's goods-lift rules and we plan around them.
